My creative non-fiction essay “Five Auguries” was published in The Lindenwood Review in Issue 12 in Spring 2022. I wrote this essay in the summer of 2021 while living with my fiance’s family in Central Wisconsin. We were there to help support my mother-in-law-to-be who had been recently diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.
It was a challenging time as I navigated a new space both geographically and spiritually. Thankfully, the summer held some (difficult) healing for my MIL-to-be. I found comfort and wisdom from the animals, drawing upon the ancient art of auguring for guidance. In my writing, I had the support of a wonderful writers’ group—the Sky Storytellers—who helped me prepare and revise this essay.
